The 30th of April 2016, the second annual "Mayo Day", will no doubt go down as one of the finest in the county's history. On a fresh spring evening, once again Cusack Park Ennis, proved to be a great venue for a Mayo U21 team facing a Cork side in an All-Ireland Final. Last time out, a decade ago, Ballaghaderreen GAA Club was lucky to have one member on the victorious side in Joe Dillon. This time around we were blessed to have two men on the management team and 3 men on the panel. With Mike Solan at the helm and John Ginty part of his backroom team, much was expected of this team, which contained a number of the Minor All-Ireland winning side of 2013. Anyone who knows these two, know the work they put in on the pitch and behind the scenes to get their teams ready. To win today, in their first year in the U21 management role, is quite an achievement and one which only cements the talent that these two men have as a managerial partnership. Following on from his minor success, Seamus Cunniffe can add another Celtic Cross to his tally of All-Ireland winners medals. Shairoze who has played underage for Mayo previously has now come away with an All-Ireland which has eluded him thus far. Not foretting our third player Ryan lynch, who broke his way into the U21 panel this year, based on some solid performances for our senior side in the last year. It is great to have such talented, determined and gracious footballers involved in or club. Today is not only a special day for these 5 men, but everyone associated with the Ballaghaderreen GAA Club. You have brought a smile to everyone in the town and no doubt every Mayo supporter, the world over. Hopefully this can lead to a very bright future for Mayo GAA. Below are some images of this great day in Ennis and the supporters who travelled from Ballaghaderreen.
