It was no surprise to his team-mates, fans, family and friends that Andy Moran received a second All Star and was then named Player Of The Year on Friday night in The Convention Centre, Dublin, beating off competition from his teammate David Clarke, and Dublin's Stephen Cluxton & James McCarthy. The All Stars Footballer of the Year is one of the most prestigious accolades a Gaelic footballer may win in the course of his career and is decided by one's peers. Andy, who turned 34 last week, battled back from injury over the past number of years to secure his starting place for Mayo and scored a whooping 3-24 in this year's championship. Mayo's haul of 6 All Stars on the night has not been achieved previously and after the 10 games played in the championship the character and talents of the following players shone through – David Clarke, Chris Barrett, Keith Higgins, Colm Boyle, Aidan O’Shea and Andy Moran. After a gut wrenching end to the 2017 Championship we are delighted that Andy has been awarded for his dedication, leadership, sportsmanship and awe inspiring skill. Best of luck in 2018 Andy .... great things await!! LINK TO VIDEO: https://www.facebook.com/TheSundayGame/videos/1137969909670488/
It has been a terribly sad week within the club where we said goodbye to a much loved and respected Mayo / Ballagh Stalwart. Frank has been a prominent member of our club over the years, on the pitch, on the sideline and more recently at the end of the phone offering advice.
In January 2017, Frank was a truly worthy recipient of an award from East Mayo for his contribution to gaelic football. On accepting the award he gave a heartfelt speech on his love of the game and his joy at watching our young men & women don the jersey and take to the pitch. Frank has been an inspiration and a friend to many over his lifetime but to none more so than the young people at Ballagh GAA. U/21 B Championship - Group 1
