On Friday night, 29th December, 2017 we started our evening at The Brusna Inn with a wine and cheese reception for our Sponsor's who give so generously which in turn ensures the required support and equipment for our teams. Many thanks to Dozio's of Mayo for the fantastic cheese selection and Gleeson's for the wine. MC for the night was our Chairman Dermot Dillon, who was joined by John Kilgallon our Joint Treasurer to thank our sponsors. Pat O'Grady (Minor Manager) took to the stage to introduce a very colourful and extremely talented Minor Team (Sponsored by Ballaghaderreen & District Credit Union) who won both the East Mayo Championship & the Minor C Championship. The lads were on hand to sing a rousing redition of "The Black Velvet Band" led by the master - Michael Donoghue. (Check out video at: https://youtu.be/l4Os66ursIw) Our President, Christy McCann spoke of Andy Moran and recalled many stories of Andy's days on the soccer pitch and in the handball alley followed by his huge achievements on the GAA pitch. It was very apt that Christy was the man to present Andy Moran with a token gift from the club as his knowledge of Andy down through the years was second to none. A presentation was also give to Jenny Moran - as Christy said "behind every good man is a good woman" It is a fact that Andy Moran, a genius on the pitch, is equally good behind the microphone. His encouragement for the Minor Team on the night and the club teams in general left the room feeling there is nothing Ballaghaderreen GAA cannot achieve. Frank Kelly (RIP) was mentioned and remembered on numerous occassions by Pat, Christy & Andy - he was a friend to all and an inspiration to many of our young footballers. To say this man left his mark on the club is an understatement. Our thanks to Kathleen Horan & family for the fine facilites at The Brusna Inn. The night ended with our multi-talented Chairman taking to the decks to DJ for the remainder of the night.
