![]() At the Mayo GAA County Board meeting, held in Elverys MacHale Park on Monday 19th October, Ballaghaderreen's Michael Solan was ratified as the new Mayo Under 21 manager. The Ballaghaderreen native takes over from Niall Heffernan, who held the position for the past two years. Michael is no stranger to Gaelic football management as he managed Ballaghaderreen's senior side in 2013 and has been a key figure in this year's management set up under Eamonn O'Hara. Michael has also worked with the Mayo U21 during the previous year's championship campaign. Michael who is an extremely diligent manager & trainer will no doubt leave no stone unturned when preparing his players for the forthcoming championship. Michael, who played at all levels for his club Ballaghaderreen, including the Moclair Cup-winning sides in 2008 and 2012, was one of three candidates interviewed for the position. Michael will bring, Joe Keane (Crossmolina) as Coach/Selector, John Ginty (Ballaghaderreen) as Selector, Liam Moffatt (Crossmolina) as Head of Medical and Barry Solan (Ballaghaderreen/Arsenal) as Head of Strength & Conditioning. Many at the club will appreciate the work that John Ginty can bring to Mayo's management set up, after seeing him in action under Mark Dowd in the 2012's run to the Connaught Final. John's work behind the scenes may have gone unnoticed by many outside of the team but this was extremely appreciated by those with whom he worked with. Going through everything with a fine toothed comb John also had players ready for every eventuality. With the Hastings Cup set get underway early in the new year and with the Connaught Under 21 championship starting in March, Solan and his management side will get straight into selecting a panel of players. This squad is expected to feature many of the Mayo minor team which captured the All-Ireland title in 2013. - See more at: http://www.con-telegraph.ie/sport/roundup/articles/2015/10/19/4107765-michael-solan-appointed-mayo-under-21-manager/#sthash.DNkcCGfP.dpuf
